Newly arrived vocational students’ situation in life and at school

چکیده

This study investigates prominent themes about newly arrived immigrant students’ situation in life and at school as reflected interviews with four teachers a vocational upper secondary located Swedish city suburb dominated by residents background. Foucault’s concept of power counter-power well Riessman’s narrative analysis are used to discuss analyse the interviewed teachers’ descriptions. The results highlight mechanisms involved discrepancy between well-behaved ambitious students media representations students' housing area criminal. also points relations certain student groups strong solidarity other non-belonging students. There is dynamic authorities making decisions affecting resistance these decisions. contributes valuable information lives young Sweden, possible relevance similar contexts Nordic European countries.
